The classic trap is using hip drive and a rising torso to heave the bar, which turns the lift into a disguised deadlift and inflates the load. Keep a fixed hinge and a neutral spine, and pull by driving the elbows back and squeezing the shoulder blades together.

What is a good 1RM barbell row for an 80 kg man?
For an 80 kg man, expect around 40 kg as a beginner, 80 kg at intermediate level (1× bodyweight) and 120 kg for the advanced level (1.5× bodyweight). The elite threshold reaches around 144 kg, 1.8× bodyweight.
How do you balance the barbell row and the bench press?
For healthy shoulders, aim for a strict barbell row roughly equal to your bench press in working load — a pull-to-push ratio near 1. In practice a strict row usually lands around 0.7–0.9× a flat bench because the strict hinge caps how much you can move; if your row is far behind your bench, your upper back is the imbalance behind many pressing-related shoulder aches.
What are the most common barbell row form mistakes?
The biggest is "English-ing" the bar up with hip and lower-back momentum until the torso stands nearly upright. Others include rounding the upper back and losing scapular retraction, using a short range that never touches the torso, and shrugging with the traps instead of driving the elbows back. Cutting the range or adding body english both inflate an estimated 1RM that your back cannot really produce strictly.
Do the Pendlay row and the Yates row give the same 1RM?
No. The Pendlay row (bar reset on the floor each rep, torso horizontal) is stricter and harder than the more upright Yates row. These standards correspond to a classic bent-over barbell row; adjust your reading based on the variation you test.
