FFMI of 24: what does it mean?
A normalized FFMI of 24 places a man in the "excellent" zone (23.5 to 25): an elite level, reached by very serious lifters. It is the top of the 22-24 bracket where most natural lifters top out per Kouri et al. (1995) — being at 24 therefore means belonging to the most developed naturals, about 1 point from the generic natural ceiling of 25. For a woman, 24 sits clearly beyond the generic female ceiling (22): the scale reads "exceptional", a level beyond the natural reference limit. At this stage every tenth of a point matters: body fat accuracy becomes decisive (a 4% error shifts the FFMI by about 0.6 point), and a frame-based personalized ceiling (Casey Butt model) is more relevant than the generic 25.

Women
| Normalized FFMI | Level |

| 16 – 18 | Above average |
| 18 – 20 | Very good |
| 20 – 22 | Excellent |

Indicative scale for the normalized (height-corrected) FFMI. Reliability depends on the accuracy of your body fat %: a 4% error shifts the FFMI by about 0.6 point.
💬 FFMI 24 FAQ
Is an FFMI of 24 possible without steroids?
Yes, but it is the top of the natural pile: 24 closes the 22-24 bracket where most naturals top out (Kouri et al., 1995) and sits in the "excellent" zone (23.5 to 25) of our scale. It usually combines long years of training with favourable genetics — and a large frame helps (Casey Butt model).
At an FFMI of 24, does my body fat % skew the result?
That is the critical point: a 4% error on body fat shifts the FFMI by about 0.6 point, which at this level can make the difference between "excellent" and "exceptional". Always use the same measurement method (for example the U.S. Navy estimate built into our calculator) and follow the trend rather than a single reading.
What does going beyond an FFMI of 24 mean?
Approaching the elite natural limit: the Kouri et al. (1995) study places it around 25-26 for a genetically elite natural male, and above 26 the FFMI becomes statistically suspect for a natural lifter. Between 24 and 25, about 1 point remains, i.e. roughly height² (m²) kg of fat-free mass, gained very slowly.
